This book was loaned to me by a long time friend. I, - was a long time law enforcement officer here in Duval County.. I wish I had such a resource when I was working such troubling cases, and needed to know what and how to pray.. what better resource is there then God's own word? I'm fourteen and I've read four of Kiyosaki's books. I liked all of them, except for this one. He doesn't get into the facts about investing. Pretty much, all he says is get a job, control your spending, and invest. Save yourself $15 and buy Rich Dad Poor Dad instead.

An Early Start to Understanding Finance

This book is an excellent introduction to the how and why of finance. Author Robert T. Kiyosaki has written this short book in clear concise language that cannot be misunderstood by the teen in your family. At the outset, Kiyosaki puts the young reader at ease by talking about the myth of IQ and intelligence. He immediately erases any thoughts of "I am not smart enough to understand this book". Once again, as in his previous books, Kiyosaki emphasizes how the rich think differently from those who are in the middle and poor class. Rich Dad Poor Dad For Teens is an easy to read 'think positive about finances' book for young people. Included is a two-page glossary that proved to be very helpful to the young teen (age 15) who read this book after I did.

In this day and age of consumer greed and high end designer clothing for teens, there is a chapter that addresses Stretching the Dollar. Kiyosaki does not say be frugal, instead he advices the teen to think of ways to recycle old clothing, how to buy in bulk, etc. I was particularly impressed with a revealing exercise under the heading of The People Whom You Spend Your Time with Are Your Future . Now that can be scary--but what a powerful statement. I had earlier talks with my young friend concerning this very subject. Reading and discussing Rich Dad Poor Dad for Teens together gave us the opportunity to delve into this troubling issue again, this time with very positive results. He walked away feeling good about himself.

Better than the Usual Run of Teen Self Help Books

The "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" series has been enormously popular on the lecture circuit and in book stores. Authors Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter have distilled a fair amount of useful financial advice using the medium of Kiyosaki's autobiographical remembrances of the lessons his two 'Dads' taught him. In brief, one father (his biological father) is a teacher who stresses education and finding a 'good' job, while his other father (actually the father of his best friend Michael) taught him how to manage money, seize opportunities, and build financial independence. Like many other self help financial books, this series has a good mix of practical advice and a fair amount of platitudes designed to give readers confidence in themselves so they will take some risks in the pursuit of their dreams.

I was expecting a slightly easier to read version of the same message from this book. My wife asked that I skim it to see if it was appropriate for her grandchild. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that this book was not just a easier to read version of the original 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad.' Instead, Kiyosaki and Lechter have moved beyond the usual boundaries of the financial self help guide to discuss multiple intelligences and (surprise) the value of education in all its forms. Of course, the best of the advice found in 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' is repeated here as well. You should buy assets, not liabilities. Debt is a tool for developing assets, not means to purchase the latest gizmo that you absolutely have to have right now. But the authors also talk extensively about Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences. They correctly recognize that kids (indeed, all of us) have certain innate intelligences not all of which are developed in a traditional classroom setting. They encourage young people to develop and use their own talents and gifts in pursuit of a financial education. They rightly remind their readers that all of them are born geniuses.

In conclusion I liked this book considerably more than the original volume of the 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' series. In that volume, Kiyosaki concluded that he learned from both of his Dads, but the Rich Dad gets a far more positive portrayal. The teacher father comes up short in many ways. But in this book, education is correctly seen as one form of wealth. It is not the only form, despite what many of my colleagues in the teaching profession might say. But it is one form. A life with great books and music is also wealth. And so is financial independence. Indeed, without the latter, it is difficult to appreciate the former. And I think the authors give both forms of wealth their due in this book. That is a good message for teens to read.

For the price, this little book really is incredible. It's straight to the point and pithy. And the info culled for it isn't theory based--its the stuff the best salesmen like former Lehman Bros. salesmonster Marty Shafiroff are deploying everyday out there in the battlefield we call sales. There are dozens and dozens of useless and dull sales advice books out there--pick this one if you're looking for a sound investment. I hope RJ Shook updates this fine book one day (it is was published in 1990). The info in this book is gold. Having a hard time opening your accounts? The Tour de France: A Cultural History.

In writing The Tour de France: A Cultural History, Christopher Thompson has done that very rare thing: he has increased our net knowledge of the Tour de France. This is extraordinary given that the Tour has been the subject of writers for over 100 years. Mountains of books have been written about the Tour.

This isn't a book devoted to who dropped whom on what climb. Thompson is fishing in deeper waters. Why is the Tour the way it is? How has it affected French culture and how did French culture affect the Tour? The answers to these questions are important to any cycling fan who wants to know why he has to get up early in the morning to watch a race that is taking place 9 time zones away.

Lance Armstrong voiced his anger that the Tour de France took place in France. Yet, the Tour could only have grown and matured in France. Britain, as a result of the industrial revolution, clustered its population in cities. This made it perfect for stadium sports but ill-suited for cycle road racing. France remained a rural country well into the twentieth century making it perfect for the traveling show that is the Tour. Also, the Tour encouraged and celebrated foreign winners while the Giro connived at denying foreign riders a fair shot at victory. Moreover, the Tour was founded by a strangely gifted man, Henri Desgrange, who guided the Tour from its infancy to sturdy maturity with an iron-fisted despotism. Thompson analyzes the changes to French society that made mass-spectator sport possible at the end of the nineteenth century and how Desgrange exploited them.

The Tour de France, being a cultural history, discusses at length the riders and their economic and social position in society and how it has changed over the years. There is also a very enlightening discussion of doping, a component of racing that cannot be ignored.

This is a wonderful book that will leave the reader with a deeper understanding of the Tour and France. Read this book. It is well written and exhaustively researched. Thompson's passion for bicycle racing and French history makes each page a pleasure.

There is a bonus. The cover photo of 1947 Tour winner Jean Robic being doused with water by a couple running alongside him has to be one of the greatest cycling pictures of all time. Their obvious joy juxtaposed alongside the struggling rider encapsulates the attraction of the Tour far more than any 1000 words could possibly hope to do.

Must-Read for True Tour de France Fans!

I enjoy French culture and I'm a huge fan of the Tour de France so this book was a perfect read for me. It opened my eyes to the concept that major sporting events are an ingrained part of national culture and politics. For instance, who would have known that there's a connection between the Dreyfus affair and the Tour de France? Or that the French communists thought of the racers as their poster children?

The level of detail in the author's research was outstanding. And although the book seems to have been written primarily for an academic audience, it's not a difficult read at all.

I truly appreciated the section on "The Hero Dehumanized: The Bicycle Racer as Machine" as well as the latter portions on modern-day doping and use of technology. Because of the length of the races, the repetitive nature of riding a bike and the use of mechanized equipment, pro and amateur racers, in my opinion, sometimes take on the "persona" of a machine. That is such a shame because I'd much rather watch a fallible human have one stellar performance than a robot win over and over again. That's why my number one favorite moment in the modern Tour is Christophe Agnolutto's stage win in 2000.

and if you want to understand something as enduring as the Tour de France, you need to understand something about what it meant to the people who paid for, participated in and supported it.

A very good book (and a quite remarkable work of history for an author who seems to have spent a bit too much time in the halls of an English department.)

I'd love to go sailing with Dylan!!

Like some other reviewers, I'm completely addicted to the Sullivans... I pre-ordered this one and read it all within 24 hours of getting it. Dylan was unexpectedly sweet and I loved him from the start. I'd sure love to go sailing with him!! Grace was the perfect complement to him... beautiful (of course!) but smart, strong, and independent... maybe TOO independent! (But that's what makes the story!)

Like all of Bella's books, there are some wonderful, hot and steamy scenes in this story, along with just about the right amount of conflict to triumph over. My only complaint would be that when we reached the story's climax, it actually ended a little too quickly for me! The story was so well-woven that it just seemed as if I needed a little more substance as it wrapped up...

Still, it's a very satisfying read. Really fun to see the other Sullivans coming back into the story in various ways... that's what makes the series so addicting, after all! If you've read the others in the series, this is a do-not-miss, but if you haven't, you'll enjoy this more if you start with the first one - or at the very least start with Rafe and the other Seattle Sullivans.

Another beautiful Sullivan!

Ok- started and finished today. I could NOT put it down. Dylan Sullivan - sailor and Boat builder. An amazing man raised with/by a phenomenal family- meets Grace and her son, Mason when she wants to write about him for a magazine.

Grace has been burned and has a wall around her heart. Leave it to a Sullivan to tear it down. Their chemistry is on fire...they have that special magnetic relationship from day one. They are nice people with a great passionate fire burning beneath the surface. And together, they are quite a team.

This family- I love it. I wish I knew a family like theirs. I am hooked on this series and as always, Bella Andre writes impeccably. It's sweet, loving, happy and scorching hot, of course. She is one of the best!

Great book-- hope more family members come out of the woodwork so this series doesn't end soon!!

Bella Does it Again!

Bella does it again, with a sweet installment in her Sullivan's series. Dylan has waited to find love as he watched his siblings and cousins fall for the real thing. But when he sees it, there is no waffling on his part. He falls quickly, and hard and spends the rest of the book proving to his lady love that he is the real thing, and he thinks the world of her, and her sweet son, Mason. A fast read as you get caught up in Dylan's story, and then you'll want to go back and read both Mia and Ian's stories, so you recall once again, how those two tales fit with this one. If you love good storytelling, romance, and in this case, boats, you won't want to miss, I Love How You Love Me!

The most rapid progress presently being made in the field of gene isolation concerns the partial sequencing of cDNA clones from one or both ends to produce expressed sequence tags (ESTs). Indeed, by Octo ber 1995, the EST division of Genbank (dbEST) contained a total of approxi mately 270,000 human EST sequences accounting for almost half the number of sequence entries in Genbank.
