CHIP INGRAM is the senior pastor of Venture Church in Los Gatos, California, and teaching pastor and CEO of Living on the Edge, an international teaching and discipleship ministry. A pastor for over thirty years, Chip has a unique ability to communicate truth and challenge people to live out their faith. Chip is the author of many books, including God: As He Longs for You to See Him; Love, Sex, and Lasting Relationships, and The Real Heaven. Chip and his wife, Theresa, have four children and ten grandchildren and live in California.

Read it....because it will change your life!

Holy Ambition is a book all Christians should read. It talks about what it takes to make a difference for God. Chip Ingram, a teaching pastor on Living on the Edge and President of Walk Thru the Bible states that in order to make a difference for God, you need the following six steps,

1. developing a dislocated heart

2. experiencing a broken spirit

3. practicing a radical faith

4. creating a strategic plan

5. exercising a personal commitment

6. growing a couragous soul

Don't stop here. You may think you're not "good" enough to be used by God, but let me tell you, God uses ANYone at ANYtime, ANYwhere, so what does it mean to have a dislocated heart, a broken spirit or a radical faith? You will understand once you read this book.

I'm almost half way through already and let me tell you, in the four chapters that I have read so far, I am already moved by God. In that four simple chapters, I learn that we should live a life for God and give ourselves for Him, not the way we want, but the way HE wants. Notice this phrase, `it is not about you, it is about God.' All our treasures are stored in Heaven. Whatever you lose on earth for Him, is what you get back in Heaven. "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it." Luke 9:23-24 NIV.

What I learned most is, a Christian having a big house, a loving spouse, happy kids, nice cars and a 6-figure income doesn't mean anything to God. The question you should ask yourself...is that what God wants for us? Right now, the key is not what we want in life but what He wants for us. Don't get me wrong, it is not bad to have those treasures, but what is important is our intention. Why do you have them? Do you use them to satisfy yourself or used for serving God or helping others? If God asks you to give up everything (savings, assets, treasures) in order for you to follow Him, what would you do? These questions are not meant to scare you, because your answer doesn't affect me. It is for God. If you answer "no" to the last question, don't feel bad. We're on the same boat. Now is the time to ask God, "I am here for You, I am willing to take whatever you have for me, use me God."

You may think you have to be "good enough", well let me tell you folks, God will use you, me or even Chip Ingram himself no matter where we are in our Christian walk. It doesn't matter whether you're an amteur Christian or you're a faithful Christian, God will use you, in times you least expected at a place you wouldn't want to be. You don't have to be a good speaker or smart to be used by God, you just need to follow the six steps above and Ingram will teach you what it takes to make a difference for God and a great way to start...is by reading "Holy Ambition."

If you want to make a difference in your world for the kingdom, to be a person whom the Lord will strongly support then you'll want to read Holy Ambition. Challenging and Convicting - a Great Read!

This book has been the most challenging book I have read since "Experiencing God" by Blackaby. It forces you to look at what it really means to live out your Christian faith and seek to make a difference for God in this world.

I am a pastor of a church and have given out at least 35 copies to individuals within our congregation. If a few people in a church could put these biblical views into practice, that church would impact its community and the world for Christ.

Juan Uriagereka is Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Maryland, and is author of A Course in GB Syntax (with Howard Lasnik, 1988) and Rhyme and Reason: An Introduction to Minimalist Syntax (1998).

I remember this book from my childhood. I plan to order a copy to send to Sarah Palin, since I understand that she wants to outlaw the teaching of evolution, in favor of creationism. Well, I am now a creationist, but the splendid data in this book cannot be discounted.

An overview of the history of vertebrates

This work is an excellent overview of the vast sum of information known about vertebrates. It's concise but a complete coverage of the subject, shedding light on many of the theories and controversies regarding various aspects of the subject. Romer avails himself of embryologic information, as well as geologic, to shed light on the development of these animals. He sheds enough light on the development of various anatomic areas to be interesting but not tedious for the novice reader. For this subject -- this is a great intro.

Good but not great

I am a big fan of the 40k books in general, and this Ominibus is a great deal and I REALLY like that it takes the novels and short stories and puts them in the right order for a chronological read. Compared to the Soul Drinkers series, this one becomes a bit tedious by the last novel-but the writing is solid and the action sequences are quite good.

Warhammer 40k: The Salamanders Omnibus by Nick Kyme

The return to Warhammer!

On the distant volcano planet of Nocturne, resides the fearsome chapter of the Space Marines, Salamanders. Forged in the fires of their world and the essence of their Primarch Vulkan, so of the Emperor, The Salamanders bring death to the foes of the Imperium of Man.

So chronicled the tales in this tome.

The author does a really good job at world building. All of the chapters of Space Marines are unique with a personal battle doctrine and culture that is reflective of the planet from which they call home. The chapter Nick Kyme creates is simply superb. The world of Nocturne and the Fortress Monastery of Prometheus are excellent crafted and there are passages in which one can almost feel the heat of the volcano.

In some of the earlier sections of the book, the author does a good job with balance. Warhammer are not what one would call ‘high literature’ they are pretty much comic books with out pictures. In spite of this, the author does a good job of balancing the frenetic action with passages with a lot of atmosphere. Space Marines are really monks as much as they are warriors and monks typically are a reflective bunch and throughout the book we are treated to some rather poetic passages most often reflective of the desolate majesty of the various planets the Salamanders visit. Again, not high literature, but there is surprising elegance in this Science-Fantasy Series.

One of the reasons the Salamanders are so appealing is their heroism. An acquaintance once said that the thing about Warhammer 40k is that there are no heroes in this universe. Indeed, it is readily apparent that for the majority of mankind. The Imperium of Man is the worst place in the universe to be, save for the realm of Chaos. The death’s of a hundred people are nothing in this universe of trillions, forget merely one. But the actions of the Salamander’s throw a wrench into that philosophy. It is repeatedly mentioned that the Salamanders unusually care about the citizens of the Imperium and this is exemplified throughout the text. This not anything revolutionary in the realm of science fiction literature, in the bleak, oppressive regime of the Imperium, it adds a spark of hope in encroaching darkness.

The Flaws.

Like most the Warhammer books Bookworm has read, the Omnibus has a large ensemble cast and part of the problem with an ensemble cast is that the characters can get a little mixed up so the reader may find themselves turning back to previous chapters with the question, “who was that character again?” It is not helped by the fact that many of the characters have similar sounding names, such as Tsu’gan and Tu’Shan, it is easy to get these characters mixed up among all of the others.

While the books that are chronicled in this volume are all a part of a series, it can become a little grinding. The various battle scenes and as one would expect they are very violent and as the lessons taught to us by Hollywood, gratuitous violence doesn’t work. While not necessarily boring, they just go on and on, and it can get very tiring.

Also the various fire puns get a little worn out near the end.

This may simply be the result of reading a book that is nearly a thousand pages long. So unless the reader is hardcore fan, it may be wise to break up the reading into the various books that make up the omnibus.

Final Verdict:

While it drags in a few places. The characters are memorable and action is exciting and surely a worthy addition to any ones personal Black Library.
