About the Author
Sandra S. Turner wrote her Sgt. York book originally as a thesis for a master's degree in Communications at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is a graduate of Alvin C. York Agricultural Institute, Jamestown, Tennessee, as was her mother, her sister, and her daughter, plus numerous extended family members. "My daddy took me as a little girl to meet Sergeant York at his home once in the 1950s. The hero was not well at the time, but I still remember his smile and warm greeting." Turner previously taught English at York Institute, as does her daughter currently, and at Clarkrange High School. She worked as a writer/editor for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga and as a reporter for the Tennessean newspaper in Nashville and for the Herald Citizen in Cookeville. She was editor of a weekly newspaper in Campbell County, Tennessee. Currently, since 1981, she writes, edits, and publishes a bi-monthly Christian tabloid for singles, "Singles Scene/Spirit & Life." She has edited books for authors and has written many hundreds of resumes for an online church staffing service. She is currently a volunteer publicist for the Allardt Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off, held each year the first Saturday in October in Allardt, Tennessee.

AWESOME!

being a great niece to Alvin, I have grown up hearing many stories of his accomplishments and the love he had for his family, community and country. After reading the book, i am very excited and pleased to learn of some things that i did not know about him. The author has done a wonderful job in putting facts together for the publishing of this book. if you want to learn more about Alvin C. York, i would highly recommend this book to everyone but especially to my family members. God Bless.

Good Reading

Well organized and since he was my Great Uncle (married my Grandfather's sister), I fell qualified to comment about his life. I appreciated her approach to her subject and enjoyed reading the various newspaper coverage. The world appreciated hero's then much more then today. Being in service has never been easy, and sadly, not appreciated as much as it should be in our Country.

I've lived in Fentress County all my life and have always admired Sgt. York. I attended the High School he founded. I learned so many things from this book, not only about Sgt. York but also about the news media. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the history of our country and the great men who fought for our freedom.

Would not recommend for beginners

This book looks like it never went through editing. If it did, the editor doesn't know any code and didn't pay much attention to the other parts either. The code has multiple run together so that will confuse the new programmer. It has good information and is intuitive but, the words running together is confusing.

Very Short and over priced, shop elsewhere

This book is extremely small and only 100 pages. I strongly urge you to just watch online videos instead like microsoft virtual academy where you can go through a ton of C# tutorials. This book will show you have to use basic math, use the switch, use the for loop, pretty generic stuff really. If you already know a programming language of some sort and you are wanting to get into C# I would not really recommend this book at all. It touches briefly on inheritance and polymorphism which are often referred to as OOp or OOa&d concepts, but the short paragraph definitions I found to be extremely lacking in regards to other books I have read. The short appendix at the end of OOP DeMystified that I picked up used for 8 bucks did a far better job more effectively with less technical jargon. If this book was 8.99 then maybe I could recommend it but at it's current price of like 17 bucks, I really felt it was a rip off. In fact, I would even say that the author really stretched the content, images, diagrams, and font sizes to try and fill up the meager 100 pages as well.

Pathetic excuse for a book

I have not come across a worse book than this for a long time. It is a few tidbits of information pieced together and posing as a "book".

The text contained is generic and not specifically written for C#. I feel the author could had included snippets of codes in any other language and resale the exact same book for any language available out there.

The print and binding of the book are subpar, with the printing not even aligned on the top of the pages. The typeface used is an extra large font, and when you include code samples in those extra large fonts, the pages fill up quickly. The book attempted to introduce a lot of concepts within 100 pages - but what is the point of adding in a separate chapter in Multithreading, when the entire chapter is 5 pages long?!

On Grief and Grace

When I lost my baby in the 1980's no one was talking about the grief of this kind of loss. People said the most uncaring insensitive things - I'd have another one, God needed another angel, and all sorts of ridiculous things. This book has sound theology, and explains what BIBLICAL teachings are about the soul of a baby. Further, it explores a concept many Christians seem to misunderstand - GRACE. In addition to miscarriages and still births, this book addresses abortion. Parents who have lost a baby to an abortion deal with the loss, and the guilt of their decision as well. This is a wonderful book about both the grief and the grace of God and His love for all of us. Most of all, it gives parents who have suffered the loss of a baby hope that they will, indeed, hold their child in heaven.

The True Pure Land sect of Japanese Buddhism, or Shin Buddhism, grew out of the teachings of Shinran (1173–1262), a Tendai-trained monk who came to doubt the efficacy of that tradition in what he viewed as a degenerate age. Shinran held that even those unable to fulfill the requirements of the traditional Buddhist path could attain enlightenment through the experience of shinjin, “the entrusting mind”―an expression of the profound realization that the Buddha Amida, who promises birth in his Pure Land to all who trust in him, was nothing other than the true basis of all existence and the sustaining nature of human beings. Over the centuries, the subtleties of Shinran’s teachings were often lost. Elaborate rituals developed to focus one’s mind at the moment of death so one might travel to the Pure Land unimpeded, and a rich artistic tradition celebrated the moment when Amida and his retinue of bodhisattvas welcome the dying believer. What is more, many Western interpreters tended to reinforce this view of Pure Land Buddhism, seeing in it certain parallels to Christianity.

This volume introduces the thought and selected writings of Yasuda Rijin (1900–1982), a modern Shin Buddhist thinker affiliated with the Otani, or Higashi Honganji, branch of Shin Buddhism. Yasuda sought to restate the teachings of Shinran within a modern tradition that began with the work of Kiyozawa Manshi (1863–1903) and extended through the writings of Yasuda’s teachers Kaneko Daiei (1881–1976) and Soga Ryōjin (1875–1971). These men lived through the period of Japan’s rapid modernization and viewed the Shin tradition as possessing existential significance for modern men and women. For them, and Yasuda in particular, Amida did not exist in some other-worldly paradise but rather Amida and his Pure Land were to be experienced as lived realities in the present. In the writings and lectures presented here, Yasuda draws on not only classical Shin and Mahayana Buddhist sources, but also the thought of Nishida Kitarō (1870–1945), the founder of the Kyoto School of philosophy, and modern Western philosophers such as Heidegger, Nietzsche, and Buber.

Well written life story

I bought the book in Uganda and I enjoyed reading the story of a woman who worked hard to start and maintain a family in the midst of challenges of an absentee husband and life in exile. She explains her life from childhood, career, marriage, politics, etc in a genuine manner that is an inspiration to women who would like to write their life story.
