Many readers, now in their 40's & 50's...still moved

Was this book a universal coming of age for many of us who are now in our 40's and 50's? Many have commented that they read this when they were 10-15 yrs old, and it made an incredible impression on them. This experience is mentioned on many of the websites dealing with Rampa, to include skeptic blogs, etc. Even if it is fantasy, isn't it interesting that it made such an impression on so many of us at such an early age? I was probably 12 yrs old when I read his books, as my older brother and Mom were very into the occult, and it seemed very natural to me. I remember after reading the books, seeing auras, which I accepted as normal at that age. I'm no longer seeing auras, and I am not into new age subjects, but I must give cudos to a book that could/can continue to affect me 40 yrs later. Hoax? Spiritual hijack? Who cares...it made me a more spiritual person, made me respect the souls of others more, and continues to stay with me MANY years later. I'd say it's a classic.

Great book, just what I was looking for to get started using html5 and iOS. I had a question for the author "Scott Preston" who gave fast feedback and support. Book format is easy to follow and well written with clear to understand examples. I would recommend book to anyone who has an interest in seeing their web pages displayed on a iPhone, iPad or iPod using html5 and JavaScript.

About the Author
James R. Bitter is a professor in the Counseling Department at East Tennessee State University. He also has served on four editorial boards and has conducted many seminars across the country and internationally. Great textbook!

This book is great. It's not arbitrarily dense, or just a bunch of fluff. The author speaks TO the reader, not AT the reader. Bitter clearly has a great deal of experience from a diverse background and is passionate about the field, as well as insightful. While I find many textbooks hardly worth the effort of translating their arcane confusing text into actual useable knowledge, this book stands out as being challenging yet readable, and ultimately - and most importantly - it's relevant.

More tha a great textbook!

Having just completed a cursory reading of this text, I am extremely pleased with its style and content. Dr. Bitter prepared this text with the student in mind, and accomplishes the task of offering a guide to clinical understanding of the many theories of psychotherapy as applied to families. My only regret lay in the absence of addressing psychoanalytic object relations theory, but since that is one of my specialties, I can certainly supplement that in my teaching.By offering a hypothetical family presenting for family therapy, he sets about teaching several different theoretical perspectives by which the practitioner works with the family. I will certainly utilize this text for future course instruction. Walton H. Ehrhardt, EdD

Excellent overview of most theories for MFTs

This is one of few textbooks I actually enjoyed reading and kept up with for class. It is easy to read and the format allows you to reference what you need to find quickly. Bitter is easy to understand and illustrates the theories very well. There is not a chapter for "Contextual Theory", but there is a very informative one about parenting that I found interesting. Overall, a very valuable book for students learning about Family Therapy and perhaps even good for brushing up on what you might have forgotten.

Finally... Stanislavski As He Intended To Be Read

Stanislavski is a familiar name in theatre circles. The legendary director of the Moscow Art Theatre wrote perhaps some of the most influential work on acting in the last century. I could list the big names who cite his influence (most famously, Marlon Brando and Sir John Gielgud), but the fact is his teachings have become so much a part of the way we approach theatre, that almost any actor in the English-speaking world (and abroad) can claim at least some influence.

Unfortunately, most English-speakers are familiar with Stanislavski's `system' in the considerably problematic translation by Elizabeth Hapgood. What's more, the form that translation took (as two separate books, the famous "An Actor Prepares" and "Building a Character") misrepresented Stanislavski's original intentions. In actuality, "An Actor Prepares" and "Building a Character" are two parts of a larger book, called "An Actor's Work on Himself." In the Soviet Union, they were published as volumes one and two of the same book.

Hapgood worked with Stanislavski on an early edition of the first half of the book, which in her translation would become "An Actor Prepares." However, Stanislavski continued revisions on the book after Hapgood had returned home to America in 1935. The translation that was published, in addition to being abridged to half the original's length, was also missing the subsequent revisions that Stanislavski released in a Soviet edition three years later just before his death. Stanislavski did not live to complete part two. Hapgood received fragments from Stanislavski's son, Igor. Not knowing that these were meant as a completion to a single holistic system, she published them as "Building a Character."

This new edition, called simply "An Actor's Work," reunites the two volumes at last. Translator Jean Benedetti is also an erudite scholar of the life and work of Stanislavski one whom he has published several definitive biographical works. The translations themselves are somewhat stilted, but still a major improvement over the Hapgood translations, which remain the most widely circulated versions of Stanislavski's work. Part One is finally presented unabridged. Benedetti's reconstruction of the unfinished Part Two (from a motley selection of fragments amassed after Stanislavski's death) is graceful and readable.

What is most striking, however, are the huge implications this new edition has on the way Stanislavski's system is currently understood. Part One of "An Actor's Work" dealt with the psychological construction of a role. Part Two was to elaborate on the physical training of the actor. Stanislavski stressed the importance of voice and movement training for the actor. Unfortunately, this second (and vital) half of the work went largely ignored in drama schools where "An Actor Prepares" became the standard text. (Stanislavski's original system, fortunately, made it back to the U.S. through Stella Adler who had studied with him for a brief period in Paris.) Thus, a huge emphasis was placed on psychology, when the implications on physicality went largely ignored.

The fact that Part Two was never completed is not much of a disaster. As Benedetti notes, it is really only of historical interest. Actors today have much more sophisticated methods at their disposal, such as the Alexander Technique and Kristen Linklater's approach to voice training (I recommend her Freeing the Natural Voice).

"An Actor's Work" is poised to become the definitive edition of Stanislavski for the next generation. It presents the first really viable alternative to Hapgood's translations. The fact that the hardcover edition is less expensive than the combined cost of Hapgood's "An Actor Prepares" and "Building a Character" should also not go unnoticed.

A clearer, more revealing legacy

Jean Benedetti provides the modern translation of this classic text on actor training, a recommended pick for any college-level collection strong in drama theory and actor training. His offers a more accurate new translation of the classic, critiquing Method acting and its legacy and putting Stanislavski's two-volume work back under one cover as he originally intended. The result is a clearer, more revealing legacy than the prior translation, and deserves a spot in any serious college-level acting library.

Great Actor's Book!

This book combines "An Actor Prepares" and "Building a Character" for a complete text on Stanislavsky's teaching. It's a large book but very readable, and it puts you right in the rehearsal room. A must for any student of acting and certainly one of the books I believe acting students need to read. You get so much information from this book, it's a read over and over work book!

To facilitate his training delivery, he began writing manuals on topics such as Linux, Raspberry Pi 3 and SQL, which proved very popular among his colleagues and so he published them to the wider public. He also writes articles for an online magazine, reviewing new apps and software releases. As Head of Development for the company, he started his career with, Byron now spends less time travelling and more time based in Colorado, where he lives with his wife and their two dogs. Good introduction to AWS Lambda.

I really found this book helpful. This is a short book, and priced appropriately, and provides a good introduction to AWS lambda functions, and how it fits into the bigger picture of AWS. It covers what they are good for, what they are not good for, and provides a couple of examples. It is clear this was written by somebody who has had experience using Lambda functions. The only complaint I might have is to use a monospace font for code listings.

This is my first time that i get AWS Lambda book, AWS Lambda is a serverless compute service that runs your code in response to events and automatically manages the underlying compute resources for you. You can use AWS Lambda to extend other AWS services with custom logic, or create your own back-end services that operate at AWS scale, performance, and security. The book is well written and easy to understand thanks.

This book covers the basics with Lambda. I've found this book very useful and well written. I haven't tried Lambda yet but after reading this book I feel I know the concepts and ideas in a very confident way. With this book, you'll learn how to create, debug, and monitor your Lambda code in JavaScript, and little helper modules are provided for simple tracing and logging, which I found useful as I taught myself how to create an event handler for my Amazon IoT button.

Painful painful painful

My chest still hurts. Jason's discussion very very well delivers the pain and heartache he feels as a cuckold. I find it interesting his take on the humiliation... Which I find truthful... But that he still accepts it. It is also disturbing and painful in how Bea treats her very obviously loving husband who puts her joy and satisfaction from sex with her lover. I would think that she would want to make sure that Jason is completely fulfilled and all of his sexual needs are met yet she leaves him cold.

This is such a fine piece of writing that you can know the outcome of this story and still enjoy everything in between.

An Unexpected Find

This is an unapologetic cuckold story. Jason has encouraged Bea to find another man, and when she does he has to accept the fulfillment of his dreams. It's more challenging than he imagined, and Wood's story does a fine job of switching between Bea's and Jason's points of view to both tell the story and help readers see the inner conflicts and excitements that come with becoming and making a cuckold. Bea doesn't pull any punches in narrating her side of the story--she finds that she enjoys both the sex with a new, more-gifted lover and her growing power over Jason. Jason, meanwhile, is coming to grips with the fact that what was always his fantasy is now his wife's reality, and that can mean that reality doesn't always match the fantasy. His angst is palpable in the story--much more convincing than other novelettes of this type. Through it all, the couple remains close and loving--even if their relationship is being fundamentally remolded. I'll await the next episode eagerly.

Very good!!

Wood wrote a very real, true to life story about what it's like to be a cuckold. Jason wants his wife Bea to sleep with other men and when she does he is forced to live with his decision. Wood got the pain and angst right and the added element of humiliation makes the story complete. It made me cringe thinking about my experiences.
