The Big Book helps wtih the serenity to accept the things we cannot change

"We are taught to differentiate between our wants (which are never satisfied) and our needs (which are always provided for). We cast off the burdens of the past and the anxieties of the future, as we begin to live in the present, one day at a time. We are granted “the serenity to accept the things we cannot change”—and thus lose our quickness to anger and our sensitivity to criticism. Above all, we reject fantasizing and accept reality."
This excerpt is from the final chapter in Alcoholics Anonymous (4th edition) and best sums up the reality that is living with alcoholism. Whether it’s a parent, spouse, ex-spouse, child(ren), it’s safe to say that everyone knows someone impacted by this disease.
I read this book as part of research I am doing into addiction. Though I am not a member of the program, I know a few friends of Bill W. and am grateful for the recovery program they have and hope that those out there suffering will find a way out of the darkness that is this disease.

Great Resource for AA members to have at hand and a suggestion

The AA "Big Book" is proven to give hope to family, friends, and the Alcoholic that there is a Successful Solution to any illness proven to be an allergy to alcohol it's self. This version is the current Fourth Edition.
This form of the BB is great to have on your smart phone, computer or tablet. I like taking my tablet to meetings and using it instead of the physical book. It easy to highlight passages easily. Plus you can use four different colors to denote the type of passages. And you can take notes I regard to any one passage. Placing the remark at the location the remark is about.
My suggestion. In future releases of new editions, Please consider using page numbers that correspond to the pages in the printed BB. This would be so much better than relying on location number or the table of contents alone. In group settings usually a page number is given so the listener can follow along. Relying on location number and Table of Contents makes it difficult to get to the exact spot for the page the reader is using. Page numbers are used in the 12 and 12 book, so it is doable.
I would highly recommend anyone interested in AA and studying the Big Book. Much easier to have at hand when out and about.

Best recovery tool ever!

Not only is this book extremely timely because of the prevalence of addiction around the world, but it is one of the most powerful books about inviting God into one's life that has ever been written.
Just about everyone's life is impacted by addiction, and it's my opinion (as a recovering addict and as one who is closely associated with many addicts) that the 12 Steps offer a sure way to recovery. And it's not just for alcoholics. These principles apply to any addiction from alcohol to drugs, to pornography. I have found recovery and healing through applying these steps, and I encourage everyone with an addiction to give it a try. It requires only willingness and honesty.
